A mis 10 años era un hecho cotidiano reunir centavos entre un grupo de Amigos, hasta llegar a diez céntimos. El objetivo: poder comprar la pelota que nos permitiera jugar partidos de “Pelota a la Mano”, un sustituto del béisbol que nos libraba de tener que desplazarnos a un terreno (se jugaba en la misma esquina de tu casa) y sólo necesitaba de cuatro jugadores: -“Un dos pá dos”… decíamos.
Curiosamente a aquellas bolas de goma maciza le llamábamos CUBANITAS, porque los colores que la envolvían eran el azul, el rojo y el blanco. Las comprábamos en el TenCent, unas cadenas de tiendas que tenían de todo como en botica. La del barrio estaba en la Avenida de Jesús del Monte (hoy Diez de Octubre) muy próximo al cine Apolo.
Cubanitas y Cuba, están unidas por dos adioses. Las pelotas porque desaparecieron del mercado entrados los años sesenta. Y Cuba porque millones de cubanos le han dicho Adiós a la Isla. ADIÓS CUBANITAS- ADIÓS CUBA.
Sesenta y tantos años después de Las Poninas para conseguir aquellas deseadas pelotas de goma, hoy los convocamos a otra Ponina; La Ponina para garantizar que ADIÓS CUBA se haga realidad.
La película ADIÓS CUBA tiene un presupuesto, pero demasiado bajo para lo que la historia necesita. Por ello vamos a convocar a una Ponina (Crowdfunding) pero a diferencia de mis poninas infantiles, donde las pelotas de gomas se perdían por los tejados de barrio, esta terminará en una película de TODOS.

At the age 10, it was a daily occurrence to gather cents with a group of friends, until reaching ten cents. The goal: to be able to buy a ball that would allow us to play a game we called “Ball to the hand,” a substitute for baseball that spared us from having to go to a field (we played it right in the corner of our house) and only required four players: -“A two for two”… we would say.
Interestingly, we called those solid rubber balls CUBANITAS, because they were wrapped in the colors of the Cuban flag; blue, red, and white. We bought them at TenCent, a chain of stores that had a little bit of everything which Cubans refer to as “como en botica.” The one in my neighborhood was on Jesús del Monte Avenue (now Diez de Octubre) very close to the Apolo cinema
Cubanitas and Cuba are united by two goodbyes or, as we say in Spanish, two Adioses. The balls disappeared from the market in the sixties. And Cuba because millions of Cubans have said goodbye to the island. ADIOS CUBANITAS- ADIÓS CUBA.
Sixty-something years after the first fundraising or Ponina to get those desired rubber balls, today we invite you to another one. This time to ensure that our film ADIÓS CUBA becomes a reality.
The film ADIÓS CUBA has a small budget, but it is too low for what the story needs. This is the reason we are calling a new fundraising, but unlike the one in my childhood, where the rubber balls were lost in the neighborhood rooftops, this one will end up in a film for everyone.
Who has not said goodbye at least once?
