Penny Laine 1 in 500,000

Donation protected
Penny Laine was born with a very rare medical condition called Cloaca anomaly. She is almost 3 years old and has had 4 surgeries with more to come.

Cloaca anomaly occurs 1 in 500,000 baby girls. With Cloaca, the rectal, vaginal and urinary tracts all form into one opening.

Penny Laine required emergency surgery the day she was born to form a colostomy. She had this for 1 year.

In that time, Penny had her reconstructive surgery to separate each tract.

In August 2020, just after she turned 1, Penny had her colostomy take down. A surgery that normally would be a simple procedure, was far more extensive. Penny's stoma attached itself to the 3 layers of her abdominal wall, one of which had separated itself from the other two.

After thinking Penny finally was out of the woods, her parents noticed symptoms of a tethered spinal cord. The NICU had assured her parents that she did not have a tether but unfortunately they were wrong.

They took it upon themselves to reach out to a neurologist who ordered an MRI which showed that she did in fact have TC.

In October 2020, Penny had her TC surgery. Her risk of retethering is high. Thankfully after this surgery, Penny finally started walking. Sadly because this was missed for so long, the nerves to her bladder and bowels were permanently damaged.

Penny likely will never have bowel or bladder control.

Her parent’s have made the very hard decision to leave the hospital that has failed their daughter but also saved her life.

Penny Laine is the light of their lives as well as her older brothers favorite little girl! But medical bills are building dramatically.

Penny now has been so blessed with seeing the very best of Specialist’s for her condition. He is located out of state and her insurance will not cover this. We are trying to raise money to get Penny to D.C.

Penny deserves the BEST quality of life possible. Her parent’s would be forever greatful for any help available to get her there.
