Penny Lane needs a surgery

 

 

WHATS THIS ABOUT?

In short, Penny Lane is a 5-year-old cocker spaniel in need of TWO surgeries which are both outrageously costly. The cocker spaniel breed is known for frequent and severe ear infections, unfortunately, Penny Lanes constant bouts with these infections has caused her ear canals to essentially deteriorate and are now required to be removed by surgical means. Given the fact that she has two ears, she'll require two surgeries, both of which will be a combined cost of about $13,000.

 

SURGERY?

Yes, the surgery is called a Total Ear Canal Ablation (TECA) in which the surgeon will make an incision under Penny Lanes ears in an attempt to completely remove her ear canals. In doing so, Penny will no longer have to ever worry about ear infections ever again. However, as you can imagine, it is quite the major surgery which involves cat scans, anesthetic, blood work, and all that costly stuff. Even more terrible still, both surgeries cannot be done in one go, one will have to be performed and then the second will be done some 2-4 weeks after the first.

 

OUTCOME?

As you can imagine, the removal of her ear canals will result in Penny being completely deaf. Although this is less than ideal, her quality of life will actually improve because she will no longer have to live with daily pain in her ears. Fortunately for Penny and myself, when she was in her puppy training, all of her commands were taught using visual cues. So, although she won’t be able to hear you or I anymore, she'll still be able to play and live the life of a regular, happy and goofy dog.

 

WHY THE $8000 GOAL?

I know the goal doesn’t cover the full cost of the operations but I’m cognizant of the fact that we all have our lives and struggles to deal with. Although I would love the for the full goal to be met, I am realistic in knowing that may not happen. I initially planned to shoulder this burden on my own as Penny is no one else's responsibility but my own. However, after speaking with some friends I was made aware of the fact that kind souls do exist and would be willing to help her and I.

One way or another, Penny Lane will receive these operations and finally live a pain free life, your contribution will make a big impact on how soon she receives the care as well as how soon she will be able to recover.
