Percy Needs Your Help for Critical Care ‼️
Donation protected
Hello everyone ❤️
Anyone who knows me, knows my cats mean the world to me. They are my best companions, and are my family. Last year, Percy and Luci lost their big brother, Tigger, very suddenly due to suspected cancer. Now, a year later, Percy has developed severe sinus trouble and the vets believe it is likely a tumor/mass in his sinuses. I am reaching out to kindly ask for donations to assist in funding Percy’s diagnostics and treatment.
Please consider donating to help my little guy.. if you cannot help monetarily, I ask you to please share our story, and send lots of positive energy our way.
About Percy:
- 9 years old - his birthday is May 4th (Star Wars day!)
- Found at 3 weeks old with a large abscess on his head. I treated him around the clock with medications and provided wound care. He healed, and has lived these past 9 years healthy and happy.
- He loves to cuddle and sleep under blankets. He will often sleep under the covers next to me for an entire night’s sleep.
- He loves all and any treats, and will snatch your food if you’re not watching.
- He is so chill, people think he’s kinda weird.
- Percy has gone viral on TikTok- TWICE! (https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT2S3DGny/) (https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT2S35B9G/)
Backstory:
Around the end of September 2024, Percy began to have slight sinus trouble. He has suffered from environmental allergies his whole life, so an allergy flare was not unusual to him. I monitored his symptoms, hoping they would clear up with time (as they usually do). By the end of October 2024, his allergies worsened. I scheduled an appointment with our vet but would have to wait until December. By the end of November, it was obvious (to me) that this was not normal for him. The breathing in his sinuses got worse, he was scratching his head nonstop, was visibly uncomfortable, so I called my vet. Thankfully, their awesome team was able to get him in the next day. He was given an antibiotic shot and started on a round of Prednisolone. Blood work was completed, and was unremarkable. Things seemed to be improving, but within a few weeks of tapering off the Prednisolone his symptoms started to return. I reached out to my vet, and we started him on Cyclosporine for allergy management on January 18th of this year.
Over the next couple weeks, Percy’s symptoms drastically worsened. He was sneezing nonstop, scratching at his head inconsolably, and in distress (physically and mentally). On the evening of February 3rd, 2025 his breathing became labored, shallow, and wheezy. Immediately, I took him to the emergency vet for prompt treatment. My dad joined me for support. Thankfully, Percy’s vitals were stable enough, though the ER team was concerned. We started him on Prednisolone again, and he was given another antibiotic injection. We discontinued the Cyclosporine. They highly recommended a CT scan and/or scope be done, but unfortunately could not complete these tests on the overnight shift due to staffing and equipment availability. We did not get home until 3:30am the following day.
I called my regular vet when they opened, and they were able to get him in for another visit the following day, 2/5. They did a chest x-ray and repeated blood work (both of which came back normal). We were referred to the internal medicine team at the ER vet for further testing.
Today, Percy had his appointment with internal medicine. The vet treating him there is highly suspicious of a tumor or mass in his nasal cavity. The best option to determine next steps is a CT scan of the head with guided biopsy, with possible scope. He will need to be put under anesthesia for this procedure, and depending on what they choose to do, it will cost between $3,000 - $4,000. This is just for the diagnostic portion of his treatment and does not include treatment moving forward. I am unsure how much that will be at this time, as currently there is no diagnosis until they can get a visualization of what’s going on in his sinuses. He is scheduled to have his CT scan on February 19th, 2025.
Between the vet visits, medications, blood work, and imaging to this point… the cost for diagnosis is already over $5,000. Again, this doesn’t include the treatment he may need moving forward. If it is a mass, it will likely need removed and it could potentially be cancerous. We are hoping for the best but either way, it will be very costly.
ALL proceeds donated to this fund will go towards paying for vet visits, lab work, imagining, and necessary procedures for Percy. I want nothing more than for my Percy to be comfortable and healthy again. He has been by my side for almost 10 years, and it pains me to see him feeling so uncomfortable and distressed, with little relief.
Me, Percy, Luci, and Tigger (looking down from kitty heaven), greatly appreciate any and all donations. I will continue to post updates on Percy. As of right now, he is resting after a long day at the vet. He is stable for now (though grumpy), and I will be watching him like a hawk until we figure this out!!
(Special thanks to my regular veterinarian’s entire practice, the ER veterinary practice, and my dad, Terry. We could not do this without your support!)
