Perfectly Parker
Parker was born a micro-preemie at 23 weeks gestation. She spent 234 days in the NICU, and discharged home in July on oxygen due to her severe chronic lung disease/bronchopulmonary dysplasia.
Last week she developed what seemed like a mild cold. Thursday 12/26 she was checked by the pediatrician where her xray showed clear lungs. By the next day her xray showed pneumonia and she tested positive for human metapneumovirus and Adenovirus. She was intubated in the ER and admitted to Blank Children's Pediatric ICU. Within 24 hours she was transferred to Mercy Hospital as she was showing signs of lung failure and needed go in for surgery to be put on ECMO to save her life.
This machine takes over the function of oxygenating the blood in her lungs. She is currently heavily sedated and medically paralyzed while on this machine. How long she will be on ECMO is unknown, but expecting 5-7days and weeks of recovery after.
Parker is the daughter of Jacob & Cassie Baker of Indianola. This GoFundMe has been set up to help pay for medical expenses, travel expenses & time off work needed by her parents. Parker also has an older brother and newborn sister at home.
