Donate for Perkonitis National Costumes

The Latvian national dance group Perkonitis was established in 1950 in Los Angeles. It is the oldest west coast Latvian dance group. For over 70 years Perkonitis has had numerous teachers and leaders and now it already has the 3rd generation American Latvians dancing in it, as well as, Latvians from Latvia. We are happy that through the years the group has been able to exist, continue, and keep its identity.

Perkonitis performs at various events at the Latvian community center, including events for the Latvian school, Latvian society, and important events like Latvian independence day. In addition, Perkonitis performs at American Song and Dance Festivals, and in 2013 Perkonitis performed at the National Song and Dance Festival in Latvia along 15,000 other performers. We are already looking forward to performing at the next American Song and Dance Festival in Toronto in 2024.

Every year Perkonitis welcomes new dancers, and we want to continue to grow and keep dancing for many years. Right now, Perkonitis is in a need of Latvian national costumes. The most urgent need is for uniform girls’ skirts. We are also in a need of other costume parts – girls’ vests, crowns, petty coats, guys’ vests, pants, boots, scarves, and other.

Currently, we have a goal to collect funds for Nica skirts. The approximate cost of Nica skirt is $450. We are in a need of 12 skirts, thus the total cost would be around $5,400.
