"Permanence” is a short-form anthology of loosely related vignettes that touch on envy, shame, and self sabotage. Permanence fixates on four impulsive characters that find themselves at a crossroads: a piano playing demolition worker with contradicting instincts, a drunken millenial with an overcharged bill, a sharp-tongued niece at Thanksgiving dinner, and a lonesome man wandering through crowds of families at a fireworks performance. With the opportunity of happiness at their fingertips, they throw it away for something even more out of reach.
The setting of each scene in Permanence is to take place on location.
• Thanks to the generosity of a woman moving to Ohio, we were permitted to take her upright piano to feature and ultimately demolish in our film. Now we need an authentic location of the abandoned house / demolition site. On this site, we still need paid demolition workers, a Bobcat Skidloader, and a few other pieces of heavy duty machinery.
• The scene featuring two drunken buffoons, Dave & Nick, is to be filmed at the bar of a real life hotel. Because it is integral the scene take place in an actual hotel, this production will require much of its budget to go towards shooting on location for this scene. Dave & Nick’s destructive behavior will result in the shattering of several drinking glasses at the bar, so budget will go towards sugar glass props for the characters to break.
• The Thanksgiving scene is to contain an expensive Thanksgiving dinner. The home of the dinner’s hostess is to have several Christmas decorations, fancy furniture, and other miscellaneous props with which family members interact.
• The fireworks scene requires VFX of fireworks setting off amidst the night sky. Therefore, a portion of the budget is needed towards hiring a visual effects team to properly depict the fireworks performance. The scene is also to be engulfed in a thick blanket of fog, so we will need an industry-standard fog machine to create an atmosphere that is vital to the scene. Dozens of extras are going to populate the scene in small groups enjoying a picnic while watching the fireworks. This will require the purchasing of props such as baskets, blankets, food, coolers, and even a food stand in the background of several shots.
