Perro Vida: caring for stray dogs and cats
Donation protected
Three months ago, Jessie encountered a malnourished stray dog in the jungle of Costa Rica while on a waterfall tour on one of her work layovers. She was skin and bones and clearly nursing, but her puppies were nowhere to be found. The mama dog happily followed her for 1/2 mile through the jungle until she reached the water. It was clear she needed help but Jessie had nothing with her. A week passed, and Jessie couldn't stop thinking about this dog. She finally reached out to the owner of the tour, Jonathan Sedo of La Leona Waterfall, to help her locate the dog and her puppies. Having spent $20,000 of his own money in the last year rescuing stray dogs and cats, he happily obliged.

Two weeks later, Jonathan had tracked her down and found her 3 puppies living in the mud under a shack on a farm. Jessie asked for them all to be taken to the vet, where they received care for the next two months until they were old enough to fly home to the United States. Having shared her story on Facebook, she was able to find homes in the US for all dogs and literally flew them back on Alaska Airlines on one of her scheduled trips. None of this would've been possible without Jonathan.

Jonathan had named the mom "Chispita", translating to "Little Spark" in Spanish. This little girl indeed sparked the inspiration in us to partner with Jonathan to continue to help him in his rescue attempts for stray dogs and cats in Costa Rica. His dream is to open an animal shelter to provide care for these mistreated animals and eventually homes. We are currently working on establishing a 501(C)3 charity to aide Jonathan in his mission.
Currently, Costa Rica has been hit by severe flooding, forcing Jonathan to close his business for 21 days. This loss of income has significantly impacted his ability to care for the animals, so we are trying to raise money for him until the non-profit is established.
His current needs are veterinary care for these 5 puppies, in which he found in a trash bag on the side of the road. They need veterinary care, boarding, and vaccinations.

He also has these dogs that he has found foster families to take in while they look for their forever homes together. The current monthly cost for each set is $800/month. The list of animals in need continues and I will update as they come in. For now, anything towards this cause helps.
For anyone interested in adoption, please contact Jessie at here for information. She can streamline the process for you to bring them home into the U.S.
