Sally Crum lost her partner and best friend Perry Bream unexpectedly on March 23, 2021. The tragic circumstances surrounding his death further compound the shock and profound grief of his passing.
Perry was a man of great compassion, always willing to lend a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on. He had a deep connection with nature, spending many years at sea — he loved the ocean, calling it “the wet planet.” Perry also cared for his community, standing strongly for social and environmental justice. He was known as “the music man” in weekly downtown Eugene protests. In the past few years, Sally and Perry found great joy together on her farm planting productive gardens with the Unity community gardeners, working the earth, tending to animals, and fixing up the homestead. They had many similar interests. They loved music of all genres, singing in choir, yoga, meditation, and cooking nightly meals with fresh vegetables from their garden. When they thought of their future, it was together. Sally must now try to move on without him. She feels comforted by the beautiful memories and thoughtful conversations they had.
Perry had expressed in his many conversations with Sally that when his mortal time on earth was finished, he wished his body to be turned to soil. Honoring his wishes, Sally is planning a natural burial, and has found him a beautiful resting spot in a quiet meadow with a view of evergreens and water. Sally and her family have been humbled by the outpouring of love and support shown by our community. Donations to ease the financial burden on Sally to pay for Perry’s memorial, burial, and other expenses during this extremely difficult time would be deeply appreciated.
