Personal Housing Crisis
My name is Jayda. I am a single mom living in Austin, and I need help.
The Short bit of The Long-and-Short-of-It: I cannot afford housing after October, and I am asking for financial aid to secure housing for my daughter and I.
For those interested, here is The Long of It.
My current apartment complex is raising my rent by 16.59%, after a 12% raise last year. I am unable to cover this increase with my current employment.
Between the deposits, movers, cleaning, etc - I also cannot afford to move at this point.
I am frantically combing LinkedIn daily looking for a better paying job, but the pickings are slim for a single Momma.
I have until August 17th, 2021 to let my current Apartment Complex know whether I will be re-signing the lease at their, frankly, inhumane asking rate, or to tell them that I have found a sustainable alternative and will be packing up and heading out.
The lease itself is up on October 18th, which is the day before the kiddo's birthday. So if I end up moving, it will have to be the first week of October.
The timeline being as short as it is, I am in a panic.
I do not know where we will move, -IF- we can move, or how I will continue to pay for these impossible rates. As such, I am hoping for help from my community and beyond.
If you can donate: THANK YOU! YOU ARE A DIETY OF CHARITY, AND DESERVING OF THE BLESSINGS OF A THOUSAND WINDFALLS. Your donation will go directly towards our housing, whatever that ends up looking like.
If you (like most folks here in the States) are close to crisis yourself and unable to donate financially: I GET IT! NO PRESSURE! THINGS ARE TOUGH EVERYWHERE AND I HOPE YOU GET HELP TOO!! Please consider sharing this page as far and wide as possible. (Any graffiti artists out there?*)
I am also open to help in other ways. Got a place for us to live? Are you, or a friend, the type to find that sneaky cheap-yet-safe home for a kiddo and her Momma? Please let me know!
Some things I have already checked and did not work out:
Rental Assistance - Not available for my situation
Section 8/Low-Income Housing - Waitlists galore. Some as long as years.
Crashing with family - No space. Plus: Storage costs are no fun either.
Moving Out of Austin - My job, as well as my entire support system is here. Unless there is a six-figure income waiting for us, I am stuck in the Austin area. (Buda/Kyle are workable though.)
Thank you for reading as far as you have. And do not hesitate to reach out for more information. I'm not shy, and pretty much love an excuse to word-vomit my crisis all over a listening ear.
