Hi my name is Nicholas Gill im 39 years old and live in Bristol were i have all my life im raising fund's in order to go to perth australia to compete in the World Transplant Games. These game's are for people who have had life changing organ and stem cell transplant's. 5 years ago september 14th 2017 i was 1 of these people who needed to have a full liver transplant. Without it i would not be here tday. I was diagnosed with liver scirosis in 2016 but didn't know what had caused it as ive never been a drinker which i know is what alot of people would think is the main cause. As it turnt out i found out i had a genetic disorder called Alpha 1 Antitrspyrin defficiency. It normally affects people in they're lungs but with me i was unluckyer and it affected my Liver. I was then put on a transplant list in early february of 2017. I went to the london royal free hospital in april as i was told they had a donor. But this 1 wasn't suitable. I then had another 1 same day but this 1 was to bad for my body an i would of needed another 1 in about a years time. Feeling a bit dissapointed i was sent home. Feeling low an bit disheartend i didn't think i would survive for much longer and get to see my 3 children grow up. Then over the next couple of months i deteriorated and built up alot of fluid. I had a drain an they drained 17.5 litres of fluid off of me. Then thankfully on september the 13th at 11:20 p.m i had the phone call id waited for. They had a perfect match for a liver. So that nite i headed up to london. I went down for my transplant at 10 a.m on the 14th. I was in hospital for 2 and a half week's. Although my operation was successful i had few complications during the op. I actually died for 2 mins on the operating table. They had to manually pump my heart back to rhythm. I was in a coma for 6 days also. Im 5years since my operation now. Liver seams to be all fine. However i have a few kidney problems. After my operation i was then told about the british transplant games. Which is for any1 who has recieved this new gift of life.i competed in these games for the 1st time in 2018 in birmingham. I competed in darts 10pin bowling and snooker. I came 5th in the bowling 4th in snooker an the last 8 for darts. I then competed in 2019 at newport wales. I won bronze in the darts and gold in snooker in the plate cup. I was then selected to compete in the world transplant games in newcastle in 2019. I was part of team G.B and Northern Ireland. I didn't win anything in the bowling. But i won gold in the darts for team G.B. Due to the pandemic then in 2020 and 2021 the games were cancelld in coventry and the worlds in texas. I competed this year in the british transplant games in Leed's in july this year. I came 4th in bowling but won gold for the darts. Ive now been selected for the world games in Perth Australia in April 2023. Which is the whole point of this fund raiser, and to also promote the importance of organ donation as without it i wouldn't have this 2nd chance of life. So any donation's will be graciously recieved. This is a 1nce in a lifetime oppurtunity for me and also making my donor family proud and showing them how far ive come on this journey. Thankyou for taking time to read my story.
