Peta’s fight for her life

Hi, my name is Rachel and I am starting this fundraiser to help support my dearest friend, Peta Richards’ family for her medical / future rehabilitation expenses after suffering severe head injuries on holiday in Bali.
Never in a million years would you think that popping out on a 7-minute trip to buy your 3-year-old son ‘one more birthday present’ would completely change the entire course of your life.
On April 1st, 2022, that is exactly what happened to one of my closest friends, Peta. Peta, a nurse who worked entirely through COVID19 in Victoria, Australia - is the most, caring, selfless and loving wife and mother to her husband Matt, and their two young boys Sonny (4) and Alfie (3). Devastatingly, Peta, ended up in an emergency department after being knocked off her scooter in a heartbreaking accident and is currently fighting for her life.
Peta has suffered severe head injuries, including bleeding on the brain, a fractured skull and extensive brain swelling. She required life saving major brain surgery in Bali to remove part of her skull and relieve the pressure within her brain. In the first 24 hours, Peta’s husband Matt, had to continuously fight for Peta to get the best care possible. From being transferred to an international hospital within 24 hours to having to coordinate Peta being transferred on an evacuation flight on day 10 back to Melbourne, Australia.
Peta is currently in the ICU of the Alfred hospital, the major trauma center of Victoria, Australia. She remains heavily sedated in an induced coma on a ventilator. She now has every specialist team involved in her care and we know she is in the very best of hands. She will have an exceptionally long road to recovery with rehabilitation and at this stage we can only measure her progress on a day to day basis.
We have started this Go Fund Me account to support and ease the burden for Matt and their two young boys. Over the coming days, weeks and months Matt will need to not only take care of Peta, attend hospital appointments, cater, and accommodate to any changing needs while also looking after his boys. We are hoping this money can go towards anything the family need in the immediate future and go towards medical expenses to provide Peta with the best possible rehabilitation care to progress her recovery.
From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to thank you for reading Peta’s story and humbly ask that you share this link with friends, family, and your extended network. And if possible, please donate to this deserving family.
Thank you so much for your support! We look forward to providing you with positive updates on Peta in the coming months.
Thank you
