UPDATE: MARCH 3, 2021

Thank you once again to all who donated to the Peter Fassoulis Memorial Fund!

The total donations last week brought us to within $28 of the total cost for Peter's funeral and related expenses.

We made the announcement last week that we had hit that mark.

Today, another very close friend to Peter made a donation to the Peter Fassoulis Memorial Fund. You will receive a personal note of thanks and let you know we have gone over the goal.

As before, with a donor's consent, all donations which exceed the goal go directly to the Peter Fassoulis Memorial Fund, with leftover funds going directly to Peter's only remaining family, his brother Tom Fassoulis.

TODAY'S UPDATE: FEBRUARY 25, 2021

Thank you to all who donated to the Peter Fassoulis Memorial Fund. Please do not send anymore contributions.  Instead , you may go to Tom Fassoulis' Facebook page and sent him a private message of support.

This campaign was the idea of many of Peter's friends who called from around the nation asking if they could show support to Tom in Peter's memory. When we started the campaign, we did not yet know the total cost as details were being worked out. An ice storm across the nation also put normal funeral operations on hold. We are happy to report that with the last two donations, enough of the charges have been covered to close the fundraiser, with the outstanding balance being only $28! Therefore we are closing this campaign.

When Peter's brother Tom Fassoulis saw the outpouring of love and support he received it brought a tear to his eye. He is deeply moved by the thoughtfulness of each donor, as well as by the messages of support he has received.

Thank you again to all who participated in whatever manner you chose to do so. Tom is planning to have a memorial gathering in Colorado as weather and Covid permit. Friends and Family will be updated as Tom chooses the date. There will probably be more than one gathering, as well. One in Colorado, one in Oklahoma and one in New Orleans.

In deep gratitude,

Lynnea G and Tom Fassoulis

UPDATE FEBRUARY 2021:

Thank you to all who donated to the Peter Fassoulis Memorial Fund, assisting his only family, brother Tom Fassoulis, to raise funds for Pete's memorial.  Thank you to all who shared, contributed, said a prayer and became involved in a way of your choosing. We are very grateful for the contributions and connections made here. Tom is planning to have a memorial gathering as weather and Covid permit. Friends and Family will be updated as this unfolds.  You are invited, and we look forward to seeing you there to share Pete stories and remember his life.

Thank You,

& Tom Fassoulis-Appointed Coordinator

Peter Fassoulis was a dear friend for decades, and was loved by many, known for his humor, soul, blues and jazz music, original photo art and audiophile chops.  As a close companion put it, Pete lived his life without fear or artifice, never chasing fame or fortune, just creating a brighter, music-filled world for his friends.

For many years Pete battled a debilitating disease called Progressive Supranuclear Palsy and then in the last 2 months, succumbed to Covid-19.  PSP is rare and we went through a long process finding a neurologist who had experience with the disease, getting medications for symptoms and a residence with fulltime help for Pete.

As a longtime friend of Pete and the Fassoulis family, my heart goes out to Pete's only surviving family member, his brother Tom Fassoulis, who, for nine years along with Pete, cared for their mother as she suffered from her own neurological disease. Their resources were strained by their efforts.

Many of Pete's friends from around the nation have reached out to ask what can be done to help.  In lieu of flowers, Tom Fassoulis has asked that donations be made to honor the memory of Peter in Colorado where he had lived, worked and played for over 30 years. This GoFundMe page has been set up to help with expenses to assist Tom in fulfilling this goal. Any amount you care to donate to this fund on Tom's behalf in memory of Pete is greatly appreciated.

Tom has set the memorial gathering tentatively for Spring or Summer, Covid-permitting.  Any questions or requested details can be directed to Tom Fassoulis in a private message on Facebook, or friends can reach out to him personally.

Every one of his companions has their story of how they met Pete. We became fast friends in 1984 when we were introduced by a mutual musician friend from New Orleans. Our love for music, art, and all-things-New Orleans has kept us close throughout the years. A fan of the road trip, Pete's extended family of friends mostly met through music, too, in places all over the country.

Born in Paterson, New Jersey, Pete later moved to Miami, Florida: Boulder, Colorado: and New Orleans, Louisiana. His last home was in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, close to friends Rob, Candy and their son Joey Mclerran who often visited and comforted Pete.

Pete attended college at the University of Miami School of Architecture. He later was a first-call photographer for many renowned musicians, like Ray Charles, Aaron Neville, Joe Pass, Chaka Kahn, Tina Turner, Milt Hinton, Snooks Eaglin and more. He was a skilled stereo technician for Paul Epstein's 'Twist and Shout Records' in Denver, known as "Stereo Pete" to his loyal following. He was a guide for friends for New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festivals. He also played percussion with New York musician Chaz Leary. Also a talented athlete, his softball team 'The Smokers' won a citywide championship, smoking all the competition.

Pete Fassoulis never hesitated to help a friend. He put me and Brad Pregeant up for a time in Colorado when I had gotten sick and needed a cooler, high altitude for wellness.

It was my privilege to honor Pete's request to stay with him as caregiver in his difficult last transition.  After visiting and helping Pete with medical needs these last 4 years, in the final month, I was able to sit with him, to hold his hand, play his favorite music and movies, sing to him and tell him the names of his friends who care for him so he knew he was not alone.

If you are looking for a way to assist in honoring Pete's final wish and to help his brother Tom, you may donate through this fundraiser, or share this link to your own Facebook page, email or text.  https://gofund.me/ab9b9453

In whatever way you wish to be involved, thank you for being a friend to Peter Fassoulis.
