Peter Green's Fight Against Cancer

On August 25, 2022, our dear friend Peter Green was diagnosed with stage 4, non-Hodgkin's Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma, an aggressively spreading cancer of the lymphatic system. The average age of this cancer is 64 and Peter is healthy, athletic and just 24 years old. After months of battling severe stomach and chest pain, extreme weight loss, and numerous trips to the ER, a PET scan confirmed our worst fear; cancer that spread to his lungs and pancreas. Although rapid spreading, most Lymphoma can be cured through radiation and chemotherapy. Peter’s care team is very optimistic that Peter will be cured of cancer after chemotherapy. This process is taxing physically, mentally, and financially.

Peter had an emergency admission to the Froedtert Hospital on August 30th. He started his first chemo treatment on August 31st in the Center for Advanced Care. Things were moving quickly, and the family was originally told the insurance covered Frodert and the Cancer Center. Unfortunately, they learned after the 5 day hospital stay that the Cancer Center was not in network.

Unfortunately, this is just the beginning of the financial toll cancer treatment takes on families.

Peter has a 20.7 cm mass in his chest pressing on his lungs, trachea, and heart, causing severe shortness of breath. He also has a large mass on his pancreas and a smaller mass on his kidney. Peter will receive 8 rounds of chemo total with an intense final round (a several-day hospital stay).

Peter recently graduated (Spring 2022) from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design for Visual Communication. Over the past summer, he has been freelancing for a top disc golf company designing discs and marketing campaigns. He had plans to move to New Mexico this Fall to live with his partner, Karly. This cancer diagnosis is completely unexpected and devastating.
