Urgent: Help Peter & Jaxon Through Stroke Recovery

On January 17th, Peter Sterling, our father, brother and friend, collapsed in his home in Fernie B.C. If not for the heroics of his eleven-year-old son Jaxon, Pete may have not made it.

Peter suffered a significant stroke, causing damage to a small area of the Medulla and is still in the Intensive Care Unit at East Kootenay Hospital in Cranbrook B.C. While Peter is alert with his mental faculties intact, the stroke has caused serious difficulties with swallowing and breathing. He recently underwent surgery to install both a tracheostomy and a feeding tube to help him with these functions. We are hoping these will be temporary, but time will tell.

Despite the adversity, Pete’s spirits are remarkably high, and he is determined to overcome this tragedy. He welcomes his physical rehab, doing what he can, given his limitations.

No timeline can be put on his recovery, but we are preparing for a 6-12 month setback.

To make matters worse, Peter has been the primary parent for Jaxon, and the two have been inseparable…until now. The separation, which would be difficult for any parent and child, has added complexity because Jaxon has special needs. The severity of Pete’s stroke means that he will not be able to resume his position as primary caregiver for his son until his condition improves.

This fundraising campaign is our attempt to support Pete and Jaxon during this difficult time and to give them the best shot at rebuilding their lives together.

The money that you donate will help to ensure that Pete’s bills are paid and his home is maintained while undergoing rehab and recovery from his stroke, so he and Jaxon can get back to life as they knew it once he is physically able.
