Opposing Land Development in Brentwood

On Feb 1, 2023, Strathcona County advised only residents adjacent to Brentwood Elementary of a proposal to use land lots Site A or B for the development and construction of a BGC (Boys and Girls Club) facility. During the Council hearing on Feb 14, 2023, council decided by vote to go ahead with such plans; the land chosen was Site A (along Heron Rd and Alder Ave). This is set to cause an influx of traffic disruption, community safety issues as well as the removal of a large parcel of trees. Many residents feel that this is not a positive action for our community from various perspectives. Although many of us appreciate the BGC and the programs it offers, during the hearing BGC staff stated that they expect to have 300-800 participants in programs at the proposed 2-storey facility with a gymnasium. Council member Lorne Harvey has stated there is no way for landowners to appeal a vote except through personal legal actions dealing with the King’s Bench. The BCG has to submit its grant application to the Federal Government by Feb 28, 2023. We are asking our neighbours to sign this petition in hopes of ensuring a different site for BGC rather than Brentwood

The good news is, lawyers, feel the neighbourhood has a strong case to dispute Strathcona County and overturn the current decision regarding the removal of reserve designation. Now the bad news.
