Peyton's Medical and Expense Fund

As most of you know, Peyton went to the Hospital late last month with pains that were previously diagnosed as Ovarian Cysts. The CT Scan immediately indicated it was something much different. She was admitted and underwent a series of tests. On her 16th Birthday, she underwent an additional CT Scan and limited surgery and biopsy. Those results were difficult to learn and she was diagnosed with aggressive, later stage and serious Adult Ovarian Cancer. It is very rare for a 16 year old to be diagnosed with this condition and only 20 cases have ever been reported with her age. Instead of Surgery, she is undergoing weekly Chemotherapy Treatments for 9 weeks and hopefully surgery soon after.  We are averaging about 3 days in the Hospital each week dealing with a variety of issues.  The Chemotherapy should again continue for another 9 weeks after surgery. We luckily found out about a new method to help keep her hair which is to wear cold cap helmets during the chemo days. The helmets are frozen to minus 31 degrees to force the chemo to go other parts of the body. Just think of putting your head in a bucket of ice for 5 hours! She is a tough girl. She normally would have lost all her hair by now but she has only lost about 10% so it works.

Peyton is tackling this with grace, humor and a fighting spirit. It is a 24/7 battle that she will win. It is a life altering event that has affected all of us. She has the best doctors, hospital and care that we can get for her. She loves and appreciates all the outpouring of love from everyone.

Her battle will be long and expensive. This will take a village of effort and support to succeed. Peyton will succeed. The costs above and beyond the covered medical insurance are significant. Portions of medical coverage that are uncovered, costly medications, nutrition, cold cap helmets, therapies and her support network affect us. I am happily directing all my time and energy to be with her. The medical and family financial needs are all encompassing and we would like your help if you can.

A specific bank account has been set up for expenses needed to help assist in the financial obligations that are needed for her care now and in the future.

Finally, Peyton has set up a journal site at caringbridge.org which will be the main source for updates on her care and progress.  Please visit it.
We will try to update weekly on her progress.
