Peyton's Fight Against Stage 4 Cancer

Hello, my name is Kristin Schultz, and I’m friends with the Lanphear family. One week ago, Peyton heard the words no one ever wants to hear, “you have cancer.” Peyton has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkins Lymphoma; a type of blood cancer that targets the immune system. Peyton will begin 6 months of aggressive chemotherapy in high hopes of complete remission.

Unfortunately, Peyton’s cancer treatment will cause her to lose her fertility because the chemo will kill most, if not all of her ovarian eggs. Peyton has decided to do an In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) egg-retrieval as this is her only option to start a family one day. IVF is not covered by insurance.

When given a cancer diagnosis, it’s easy to feel like you have lost control of everything. In order to gain that control back, Peyton has decided to try cold cap therapy in order to keep most of her hair. Cold caps and scalp cooling systems work by narrowing the blood vessels beneath the skin of the scalp, which reduces the amount of chemotherapy medicine that reaches the hair follicles. With less chemotherapy medicine in the follicles, the hair may be less likely to fall out. Unfortunately, this too is not covered by insurance.

For those of you who don’t know, Peyton is a Junior at Chamberlain University obtaining her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Due to the fact Peyton’s cancer affects her immune system, her doctors demanded she takes a medical leave of absence during treatment as she will not be able to fight off an infection if she gets sick. This means, Peyton will be out of school for at least 6 months.

All donations will go towards medical treatment, medications, testing, and other factors insurance may not help cover. Additionally, it will help cover living expenses as she is also unable to work at this time.
