PGN for Christine Revell Children's Home 2021

Parsons Green Nursery is pleased to announce that we will be partnering with the Christine Revell Children's home in Cape Town South Africa this year and aim to to raise £2000 between September 2021 and August 2022 through a range of fund raising events throughout the year.

The home provides full-time care for up to 49 babies and children from birth to five years of age who have been referred by social workers and placed by order of a children’s court. The children are either neglected, abandoned, abused or orphaned and are accepted at the home irrespective of HIV status, race or gender.

Christine Revell Children's Home strives to create a warm, friendly and homely environment, but their ultimate aim is to re-unite a child with suitable parents or extended biological family should circumstance permit. Children are also placed into foster care with families within the communities and, where proper legal channels have been followed, can also be adopted. T

After discussions with the trustees of the home, it had become apparent that COVID-19 has had a detrimental effect on both the home and the children in its care. Fundraising and other donations have been adversely impacted by the pandemic and the trust has had to dip into limited emergency reserves to keep on top of monthly running costs. The trustees are hoping to carry out some necessary works to improve the living standards for the children and donations will go towards to the following:

• Complete Children's bedroom carpet replacement to make it more comfortable and warming for them underfoot, especially during colder months.

• Additional CCTV cameras inside and out to monitor activities in the home to prevent violent crimes against children and to prevent potential break-ins at the facility.

• Linking Well-Points to a local filtration plant for clean drinking water.

• Essential equipment for laundry facilities.

• Installation of curtains and blinds.

• Cover operational cost shortfalls (food nappies, formula milk etc).

• The home collects children’s donations including pyjama’s, shoes, summer and winter wear as well as soft toys which are placed in a bag with some of their art etc for the day they leave the home. This provides each child with their very own items to start a new journey with their chosen family or new home.

Any contributions will have a profound impact on the children’s lives directly which is why we have chosen this worthy cause. It is also a pleasure to form a link with children much the same age as those at PGN and to help them establish a happier existence than the one they had the misfortune of being born into.

Learning about the work which volunteers and staff at the home do on a daily basis, in addition to the traumas and abject poverty experienced by some of these children so early on in life, highlights a stark comparison between their prospects and life opportunities with those of our own.

We are truly excited about fundraising for such an amazing cause and hope that as a community we can pull together to make a real difference to everyone at the Christine Revell Children’s Home.
