Phatima! Wreck and Ruin, Beauty and Glamour.

Tax deductible
Our beloved Phatima Rude passed away of natural causes on May 18th, 2021. Their life was their art, which captivated the hearts and minds of so many. Phatima, aka Sister Phatima la Dyke van Dyck, aka Sister Hateful Sow became a fully professed nun of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Inc., in 1991. May 22nd of this year would have been her thirtieth anniversary as a nun.

Phatima is most remembered as an artist. Her makeup skills were unparalleled, and her unique and humorous drag experiments were legendary. Phatima's outrageous and sometimes controversial performances propelled San Francisco’s shocking style of drag to legendary international status. With the introduction of social media, Phatima became a larger than life presence in many people's world and appeared in magazine and newspaper articles as well as a documentary.

What is needed:
When Phatima passed, the administrative and financial burdens were left to friends to sort out. Attorneys had to be hired, funerary services paid, personal items transported, etc. Phatima had no funds or insurance policies for these matters.

In all, your donations cover the cumulative costs, including the public memorial that was held August 1st with NOTAFLOF, totaling: $6,200.00

We realize not everyone is in a financial position to give. Some folks have it to give and some do not. We encourage everyone to donate at whatever level you are comfortable with.

We’ll work on her mural next:

The Phatima Rude Mural Project:

We would like to see a PHATIMA MURAL! We will be looking for a space in SF and a suitable and experienced muralist, (LGBTQI+BIPOC). All funds raised will be held by The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Inc. The mural project could cost between $6,000.00 and $10,000. The collaborative goal throughout this process has been to bring Phatima home to San Francisco and memorialize her in a way that is befitting such an iconic trailblazer. The Mural Project will commemorate her in perpetuity and allow us to smile upon her as a community.
