Support Bruce's Cancer Journey

Bruce Younger here, husband, father, grandfather, and owner/operator of Wholly Cheeses specialty stand at the Rochester Public Market. I was recently diagnosed with Oropharyngeal Cancer, a stage 2 tumor on the back of my tongue. Fortunately, it was diagnosed quickly and treatment has been scheduled, with initial surgery for removal at the end of February 2025 and a course of radiation therapy for a few months afterward. Prognosis for a full recovery after 5 years is fairly high, but so is the chance of a recurrence within the first 2 years. I’m fairly optimistic about the outcome.

Unfortunately, the cost of surgery, diagnostic testing, and ongoing treatment is going to eat up more of our meager savings than we can handle comfortably. Treatment will also prevent me from working my business efficiently, effectively curtailing the small amount of extra money that brings in. We’re hoping that this appeal will help us offset the unexpected medical costs and relieve some of the anxiety we’re experiencing.
