Phil's Fire Recovery and Painting Restoration Fund
Sometime on Sunday July 26th an electrical fire started in my small studio apartment / painting studio. I was staying elsewhere overnight. By the time I got there the firemen had left leaving a scene of utter destruction, paintings torn up or soggy or both except for those on panel which I hope may be salvaged. About three shows worth of work done over the past six years. Over a hundred paintings and many more drawings. I fear my iMac is a total loss along with a horizontal file cabinet with valuable documents and photographs. I could not afford insurance. I have been struggling back from a collapsed but once bright career and have been working very hard to produce a body of work with which to enter the exhibition fray once more, this on the heels of a divorce and a couple of not so wonderful medical conditions.
My ability to remain as a tenant in the building has been called into question and I may have to relocate altogether. In addition, the surviving work has to be professionally restored. I have neither the facilities, knowledge or materials to do it myself. This applies particularly to paintings on paper of which there are many. So I am Go Funding myself in the hopes that the many friends I've made in real life and on screen can help me get back on my feet and help me resurrect what work is salvageable. I need to get things rolling rather quickly as the building management is threatening to bring in building clean-up thugs to just start indiscriminately mucking out the room with out regard for artworks, musical instrumentsother valuables.
Thanks for all the kind encouragement I've gotten on FB and telephonically.
Here's hoping this works.
Best to all,
Phil Allen
