Hi, my name is Holland (Holi) and I am fundraising for my amazing brother-in-law, Phil. Phil recently had hip surgery towards the end of November. A few days after returning home while recuperating, my sister, Alli, noticed Phil seemed to be struggling to breathe while sleeping. The next day, Phil was so out of breath that they immediately headed to the ER where it was determined that Phil had pneumonia. He was admitted to the hospital and remained there for over a week. However, just a few days after returning home, six to be exact, Phil was taken back to the hospital by ambulance. Not only was there no improvement, it was now harder to breathe than before. On December 10, Phil was readmitted with hospital-grade pneumonia.
As some of you know, December 11 was a special day for Alli and Phil. Summer, their daughter, just graduated from the University of St. Thomas Nursing Program. On this day, her 22nd birthday, her family was attending her pinning ceremony. Afterwards, at the reception, her boyfriend, James, proposed. Y'all know that Summer is the baby of the family and this was a tough day for Phil to miss. She really is a daddy's girl. <3 Although many photos and videos were shared, he missed spending this very important day with Summer.
While in the hospital this time around, the doctors struggled to determine why Phil was not showing any improvement. He was on high strength antibiotics and later, steroids. Biopsies were taken from his lungs as well, but the doctors were perplexed. He didn't seem to be showing signs of improvement and was unable to be taken off the oxygen. Finally, almost a month following his initial visit to the ER, Phil was sent home with an oxygen tank.
Although Phil is home, it is unknown when he might return to work. He is on indefinite medical leave until he is able to resume daily activities without the necessity of the provided oxygen. Philip provides the sole income to their family, so I am hoping some of his family and friends might step up and help out while he and Alli get back on their feet. I know so many of you love and care for Alli and Phil like I do. (Okay, maybe not as much as me but that would be hard to beat! :-)) I also know it is a tough time of the year to ask for help. If you are able, that is wonderful, but if you aren't able to help financially, please keep Phil in your thoughts and prayers and share this link with others. We know that positive energy goes a long ways as well towards recovery. We are thankful for every bit of the love you send their way.
Thank you so very much and happy holidays.
