Philip’s Journey to Recovery

Hello every one I am Michelle, Phil’s sister inlaw and I am humbled to ask for your help. Our family set out on a dream vacation to the Dominican Republic on January 05,2024 our dream would soon be overshadowed when Phil fell ill. Philip came down with what we thought was a cold and it quickly turned to pneumonia. We rushed Phil to the hospital via ambulance on January 11 where he would be admitted to the ICU. Unfortunately Phil would stay in the ICU in the D.R. with little improvement. We were lucky enough to have had a nurse from Canada fly to the Dominican to assess him ,with her expertise we knew Philip was in critical condition and needed to be emergency evacuated and brought back to Canada. The only way that Philip would make the trip back to Canada was to be intubated. Philip was intubated on January 23 however his condition took a turn for the worse once again. They sent a chartered air ambulance from Miami where he was set to be taken to Edmonton,AB where a trauma team was waiting for him as his condition worsened they made the crucial decision to fly him to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he has remained since. Philip is fighting hard he has an amazing team here. He has recently contracted another infection in which is a very antibiotic resistant strain. They are treating it however it’s taking its toll on his overall health. Over the past couple of days the Drs have taken him off of most of his sedation and he has been able to follow basic commands and he is able to hear us talk to him. The plan is for Philip to become strong enough to be able to remove the intubation and undergo a tracheotomy tomorrow. Phil has a long road to recovery and our number one goal is to let him know we are here by his side. We humbly ask for your support to help us with some of the costs associated with staying here. Tom, Phil's brother along with myself and his father Patrick are here with him as he continues to takes the necessary steps to recovery. God bless all of you for taking the time to read our story. With all of the love and prayers from his friends and family we know that he will overcome these obstacles and return home soon.
