Philly in Paris: Send Philly Youth to Paris
Donation protected
Send Philly youth to Paris this November!
Stemming from a scholarship to follow James Baldwin’s steps in France, the creation of Josephine’s Bookshop in Paris, and years of experience working with out-of-school youth from YESPhilly Accelerated High School, Jeannine A. Cook of Harriett’s Bookshop envisioned a unique experience for Philly’s Opportunity youth and youth workers to study abroad—this group rarely gets these types of chances. This is a ten week credit bearing course that culminates in a trip to Paris, France.
Jeannine contacted and connected varying partners and together formed the Philly in Paris Collective, currently including Claire Williams and Aisha Jackson of Creating Accountable Partners, Nia Dixon of Creative Praxis, Barbara Eubanks of Going Global w/ Barbara, Manny Smith of PABJ, YESPhilly Accelerated High School, Harriett’s BookCLUB and Channel Andrews. Sharing personal and collective experiences, fostering cross-cultural, cross-generational understanding, and promoting the exchange of ideas, we see Philly in Paris as both a creative outlet and a violence prevention methodology.
We believe that in helping young people to explore diverse perspectives through travel, we can contribute to peacebuilding in Philadelphia.
