The Phish Studies Association is a scholarly community dedicated to exploring the rich tapestry of the band Phish, their music, and the unique culture surrounding them. Since 2018, we’ve hosted two multi-day conferences (in 2019 and 2024 ) and have a growing collection of publications that dive into the many facets of Phish—from their innovative approach to live performance to the complex ways their community interacts and supports one another. Learn more about us at our website.

What sets Phish Studies apart is our commitment to interdisciplinary and theoretical perspectives. We don’t just discuss Phish; we analyze their impact through various academic lenses, blending insights from musicology, sociology, psychology, and beyond. It’s where the joy, connection, and sense of community you experience at Phish concerts continues to thrive. Our group isn’t just for academics. We are an inclusive community that welcomes fans from all walks of life. Whether you’re a seasoned researcher or simply someone who loves Phish and wants to explore their world more deeply, there’s a place for you here. We believe that understanding Phish and its culture enriches not just academic knowledge, but also the experience of the band’s loyal followers. Dive into our work, share your insights, and be part of a movement that celebrates and analyzes the incredible phenomena created through participation with Phish.

If you’ve ever felt that the essence of Phish extends beyond the music and into something more profound, come see for yourself what Phish Studies is all about. Being a part of Phish Studies not only connects you with a passionate community but also places you at the forefront of a groundbreaking movement that’s reshaping how academia engages with popular culture. We promise you’ll find a welcoming space where your passion for Phish will not only be appreciated but will also contribute to a greater understanding of this extraordinary band and its remarkable community.

We rely on the generous support of people like you to keep this burgeoning field going. Every dollar donated helps the Phish Studies Association cover essential costs like web hosting, future event/conference hosting, conference scholarships, and making past conference videos accessible online. By donating, you support the continuation and growth of a unique community that delves deeper into the culture and impact of Phish.

Rewards!!
To thank you for your generous donation, we're able to offer some rewards to donors at certain levels.

For a donation of $50 or more, you will get access to recordings of all three Phish Studies 101 Fall 2024 class webinars. These webinars were the first of their kind bringing academic learning about Phish to the general fanbase. Watch all three including the guided listening session's breakdown of three "Ghost" jams.

For a donation of $150 or more, you will also receive a Phish Studies Conference 2024 event poster designed by renowned fan artist Lizzy Layne.

This whimsical poster was designed for and sold at the 2024 Phish Studies 2.0 conference at Oregon State University. The famous mockingbird delivers the helping friendly book to the main campus of OSU, with references to Lizards, the Sloth, Possum, and more!
