Phoebe Forester - Peru Expedition 2025

I am travelling to Peru for a special 4 week expedition with Camps International in the Summer of 2025 as a Year 11 student.

The trip will include community development work, environmental projects, wildlife conservation and volunteer work to improve the lives of the local community. In Peru there is a disparity between wealth and poverty, with 54% of rural communities living below the poverty line.

During the expedition we will be volunteering with some of the ongoing projects run by Camps International which help to develop housing, healthcare, sanitation, food and water security, improve education as well as working on environmental protection.

We will be involved in many activities including laying foundations, plastering, decorating buildings, mixing cement, paving and planting small food crops.

This expedition is extremely important to me to be able to make a positive impact in the world. I feel that I will acquire and develop many important life skills as we work with local communities to enhance Peru's educational standards and improve living conditions

The trip will also include a 5 day trek to the Ancient Incan ruins of Machu Picchu in the Andes, in the middle of a beautiful tropical rainforest via the very challenging Salkantay Route which will be both an exciting challenge and a fantastic experience.
