Phoenix Banked Track Project
Friends, we have a vision, and we need your support!!!
You may know us as Elizabitch Taylor and Ginger Mortis. We skated banked track with Arizona Derby Dames for over a decade! We love the sport, we love the community, and we love the inclusiveness that Roller Derby can offer.
Last year, we happened upon an opportunity- The Bay Area Black Widows had the old Bay City Bombers banked track, and it was up for sale. We have the track in our possession- it's a sturdy old track, built of steel and wood, and all the passion of the sport. Our intention is to lovingly restore this historic track, and house it permanently in a facility that would be open to all skaters in the community- a living museum that will join the roller derby of yesteryear with the modern sport of today, while giving opportunity to the skaters of tomorrow.
There aren't many banked tracks in the world- there are only about seven banked tracks currently being skated on. We would like to join that list, as an open skate facility where skaters can practice, organize, hold events, or maybe just get a little taste on a Saturday afternoon.
Our first step is the restoration project, which is a monumental task. The next step will be hosting events to build our brand and raise funds. The last step will be the permanent Roller Derby Museum. Won't you please contribute, and make this vision a reality for all of us?
