Phoenix Talent School District- GIRLS ON THE RUN

UPDATE: Tomorrow, 9/12, we have a completely full roster of 17 girls starting their Girls on the Run journey with us! It's a 10-week program, 2 days per week that will bring us through Thanksgiving. Thank you to all of our supporters!!!!!

My name is Katie McCormick, a Community Care Specialist for the Phoenix Talent School District. Our school district has recently been accepted to participate in the Girls on the Run program this Fall. We will have 15 - 3rd-5th grade students from Phoenix Elementary School; a school that is still dealing with the trauma and aftermath of the Almeda Fire; a fire that tore through our town displacing hundreds of our district families.

*(Updated Goal: $600 will fund both Fall & Spring Programs!!) The funds raised from this GoFundMe page will DIRECTLY sponsor a girl to participate in the program. The sliding scale fee that we've been approved for and the Team Hosting Fee is $20 per participant. This money will go to the Girls on the Run Non-Profit organization. Any additional money raised will be rolled over to the Spring Season sponsorships. Please sponsor one of our students for $20!

Girls of ALL abilities will learn how to recognize their strengths while building a sense of connection in a team setting. I and another coach will facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development to enable girls to adapt to whatever comes their way. At the end of the 10-week season, the team completes a 5K together, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment and sets a confident mindset into motion.

Now more than ever, "age-old gender stereotypes and ongoing societal obstacles require a commitment to strengthening a sense of confidence in young girls while fostering care and compassion for self and others. Stressors and trauma related to COVID-19 are undoubtedly negatively affecting girls. Now more than ever, girls need to be accepted, inspired and motivated".

(Registration for GOTR at Phoenix Elementary School will begin mid-August)
