Phoukhong Luangrath’s Funeral & Memorial

My father, Phoukhong “Richard” Luangrath passed in the early afternoon of November 1st, 2022 in his sister’s home in Laos. In late May this year, he had just gotten the clear that his liver cancer had gone into remission after being diagnosed in 2019. Shortly after, he went back to Laos to visit our family there, where he also had been donating funds to help fix and expand the local Wat (temple) in our family’s name. He fell sick mid October due to symptoms of his liver cirrhosis which in turn led to his passing. He was 56 this year and is survived by his 3 children, Phavina, Christina (myself) and Adison.

Anyone who ever knew my father, knew that he was undoubtedly an amazing Japanese chef. His love for food, which he instilled in his children, gave him a career of over 20 years. He loved his regulars and his work probably just as much as he loved us. He had a knack for storytelling and a humor that was truly pure and out of this world.

Here in the States, I have been my father’s guardian since he first fell ill in 2017. Any funds gathered here will be used towards his funeral and memorial expenses in Laos, so he can have the service that he deserves and can be put to rest near his brother and his father. That’s what he always wanted. Funds will also be used to help settle his medical debt and affairs here. I’d like to use the rest left over to donate in my father’s name to the Wat he was helping to restore in Laos. My family and I are so, so very grateful for every donation and share.
