Bring Team Tarahumara: Born to Run
The event we wait all year for will be here before you know it. The Born to Run Ultra Marathon 200, 100, 60, 30, 10 and 0.0 will take place May 12th – 15th of 2016. The Ultra Race/Bacon of Distance Running Extravaganza in Los Olivos, California is only two-and-a-half months away. This year there are ambitious plans afoot. Past attendees know the legends of Tarahumara running participate in this annual event including Miguel Lara, Isidro Quintero, and the “King of Copper” Canyon Arnulfo Quimare.
This year Team Tarahumara coach Mario Munoz, with the blessing of Race Director extraordinaire Luis “The Sheriff” Escobar, would like to bring a group of four runners including a first time participant Uriel Antony Rekejo. Those who have supported the Tarahumara running culture might have heard reports that a new generation of Rarámuri are reclaiming their traditions; thanks in no small part to these ambassadors of running and events like this. To this end, Coach Mario would like to bring fresh faces to introduce them to the Ultra community outside Copper Canyon, Mexico.
The logistics of travel from the Barranchas of Mexico are difficult and securing the necessary travel documents for the first-timer will incur additional costs. Our hope is that we can raise enough money to bring an expanded Team Tarahumara to this year’s event. As always 100% of your donation will go to support Team Tarahumara.
Thank you for your support and I look forward to see you on the trail.
