Phyllis Burnett Memorial
Donation protected
Anyone whose life or work involved HIV and STD prevention in Baltimore City knew Phyllis Burnett. Having crossed the United States for the Centers for Disease Control in a public health career that spanned four decades, Phyllis spent the last fifteen years as the Assistant Program Manager for STD/HIV Prevention at the Baltimore City Health Department.
To the sorrow of her friends and colleagues, on November 30, 2017, after two unexpected surgeries in the space one week, Phyllis died. She was surrounded by her brother and a gathering of several of the many good friends whose lives she touched in Baltimore City.
Phyllis will be terribly missed by her coworkers and the community she served. We are planning a memorial service on Friday, December 15th, at 3 o'clock at the Helping Up Mission Chapel at 1029 East Baltimore St. We have set up this GoFundMe in order to give family, friends, and colleagues from across the US the opportunity to contribute to her memorial service. All funds in excess of expenses will be donated to the Gettysburg Foundation, of which Phyllis was a member, and to Meredith College, Phyllis’ alma mater, toward the establishment of a scholarship.
We will be setting up a website for people to share their remembrances. Please check back here in the next few days for updates with additional details on the memorial and the website. And please help spread the word to those who wish to say goodbye.
