Help Picnic Cafe Rebuild: A Community Call for Support

Dear Friends and Neighbors,
On July 16th, our beloved city of Toronto was hit by a deluge that brought a month’s worth of rain in just a few hours, resulting in a catastrophic flood at Picnic Cafe in Evergreen Brick Works. Our café was inundated with four feet of water, causing extensive damage to our food, wine, beer, coffee stock, glasswasher, hot water tank, and vital kitchen equipment. Tragically, we also lost freezers, fridges, ovens, and damaged our newly completed renovation project that we were so proud of.
To make matters worse, we did not have insurance coverage available to help us recover from this devastating loss. While we are grateful to have reopened our doors, the impact of that day still weighs heavily on our hearts. We’ve incurred approximately $150,000 in losses, and many of our dedicated staff faced a loss of wages during the extensive remediation efforts. Although we are back in operation, the stress of rebuilding and getting back to 100% is a journey we cannot take alone.
As a community-focused café, we’ve always cherished the relationships we’ve built with each of you. We’ve laughed, celebrated, and shared countless moments together, and now we turn to you for support. Your contributions will make a world of difference in helping us recover from this setback and continue to serve as a gathering place for our community.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity during this challenging time. Together, we can overcome this obstacle and emerge stronger than ever.
With gratitude,
The Picnic Cafe Team
