Keep Pigeonburger’s bots running for another year
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Pigeonburger! I’m a 17 year-old self taught programmer :) I like making fun projects Twitter such as Twitter bots (like @SongFinderBot and @breaking_frames), as well as doing doing some professional work outside of that.
On 2 February, Twitter announced through their developer account @TwitterDev that they will “no longer support free access to the Twitter API, both v2 and v1.1. A paid basic tier will be available instead.” The Twitter API is the service that allows all helpful bots and other apps to interact with Twitter, and was previously free of charge.
Following further details, this paid “basic” tier will in fact cost US$100 per month, coming into effect from 13 February.
I run all my Twitter bots on my own server at home, which already has its own associated costs which I deal with on my own. I just simply cannot sustain another US$100 monthly payment on top of that.
Without paying, SongFinderBot will be completely unable to operate, as it requires access to the Twitter Streaming API. My other bot @breaking_frames can technically continue running, but on a much more limited basis, only being able to post 1,500 frames per month, instead of the usual ~7,440. Fulfilling this payment will allow both bots to run at full capacity again.
Any amount you can donate to help me continue running these bots is appreciated :) The fundraising goal I have set is the amount needed to keep the bots operating for a year, but even if that goal isn’t reached, I will still run the bots on a month-to-month basis if enough people have donated.
