Life of Pikelet October 2024 Emergency Fund
Donation protected
I've created this fund to be as transparent as possible as to the breakdown of the most urgent funds we need to raise this week to stay above water.
We had the remaining 7 Wolfhound x Staghound x Greyhound x Mastiff pups desexed last week. The two girls went into OurVet Melton and the 5 boys were desexed by the wonderful team at The Vet Project.
One thing we did not anticipate was that rare and not widely know congenital anomaly that some sighthounds, specifically stag/deer-hounds can inherit.
Yesterday we started the day to find that our beautiful orange brindle wolfhound looking boy "Painkiller" aka Tiger Boi (as we so affectionately called him) had passed away in his sleep overnight. He was born into the care of Life of Pikelet and spent his 11 months of life as one of our babies. We are utterly devestated by this incredible loss.
The team at OurVet Melton were so kind to offer a postmortem X-ray to rule out what we assumed could be a bowel obstruction. He continued to bleed out long after he passed, and that combined with bruising on his skin (no bleeding from his desex surgical wounds) we suspect he had a condition called Delayed Postoperative Haemorrhage (DEPOH). This is identified as a "novel mutation in the SERPINF2 gene".
Of course this is just an educated assumption based on the understand of Tiger Boi's breed, symptoms pre and postmortem.
All our other hounds are doing well.
On top of that, yesterday Pikelet's chemo side effect of being very anaemic was becoming concerning. He hadn't eaten in a few days and he had a small seizure and was just very flat.
I rushed him down to Advanced Vet Care Kensington and into emergency. Paddlepop, Pikelet's big hottie x golden foster bro, came for the trip just incase Pikelet needed a donor for a blood transfusion.
Thankfully his blood tests yesterday suggest that Pikelet is recovering and his red blood cell count is gradually increasing again.
Some sneaky chicken nuggets from drive through after filled his very empty belleh.
We do have some positive news to share around a few adoptions, but that'll come later on our social media. Right now we want to try our darnedest to get on top of the pressing bills.
This is the breakdown of funds that we need to cover this week. It's not a want, but a need. Our outstanding food and vet bills mean we cannot get any more food or have any more vet care until these are paid. And as of today, we have about 4 days left of food only.
THE BREAKDOWN OF THIS FUND
- $750 for Tiger's cremation, paw prints and fur clippings (he was in care with LoP his whole short 11month life, we want him to come home to us).
- $900 for Pikelet's Emergency Vet Bill yesterday
- $3800 for our website, hosting and IT support for the year, this was due on the 12th of Oct and without the bill being paid our website will be pull down. The website has a intricate backend that we do all our adoption contracts through, applications, profiles, surrender forms and a bunch of other things that the rescue needs.
- $3500 Food bill outstanding
- $3600 Vet Bill at Delahey Vet outstanding
- $2000 (approx, likely more) for the upcoming oncology visit for both Pikelet and Patty Cakes
And that's it! this is the bear minimum of urgent funds we need, if I can't raise these funds then I cannot utilise the services of necessity things like food, vet care and adoptions.
Absolutely ANY contribution is so very helpful, and I am so very grateful to you all.
