Updates will be made
We set up this Go Fund Me page because so many people have asked how they can help. The money raised will go towards Piper’s medical expenses and ongoing care, as well as offset the financial burden of time away from work. All donations, no matter how small, are deeply appreciated. Please continue to pray for Piper, they mean the world to us.
On Monday, September 16,2019, Piper was with a close relative on a riding mower cutting grass. While leaned over picking up Piper's play shovel, Piper fell off the other side when the zero-turn jumped. Even though the mower was not in motion Pipers left for-arm and hand were cut off. The ambulance took her Vidant in Greenville, NC where she was stabilized. From there she was put on a life flight helicopter to Duke in Durham NC. While in PICU she immediately went into emergency surgery to attach her for-arm and hand. After a couple of agonizing hours, the doctor informed us, they were not able to attach her hand as it was in multiple pieces.
Piper came out of PICU and a few days later went in for another surgery to close the amputation, even with skin graphs they were unable to complete the surgery. There will be at least two more surgeries for her in endure. After, Piper will be fitted for her first of many prosthetic hand. Piper’s physical therapist, doctors, & nurses were amazed at how quickly she sat up, stood, & walked.
Piper was released from the hospital on Saturday September 21, 2019.
She has a long way to go physically & mentally but she is an extraordinary little girl. She is putting in the work everyday along with her mother, father, family, & friends.
We’ve had long sleepless days & nights full of tears but slowly her infectious laughter is filling the room. Piper’s mom has taken an indefinite leave from her job while Piper needs continuous care.
