My name is Philippa Karg, I am 18 years old and I will be cycling 800-900km (400 - 500 miles) through Zambia, from the school to the source of the Zambezi River. I hope to raise enough money to build a classroom block for Shingwa School.
A Bit About The School
- Shingwa Primary is a small school located in rural Mpongwe Zambia.
- It currently has 579 students, ranging from pre-school to grade 9.
- There are only two small classroom blocks (4 very minimalistic classrooms).
What Your Donations will mean to the Children and the School
Any donation no matter how small will go a long way and will be greatly appreciated. Building a classroom block not only provides the school with more learning space for the children but it will also enable the children to dream big and have the possibility to further their education to the University level. The school's goal is to offer complete secondary education for the children, this is currently not possible due to the lack of facilities. The children in these rural schools often end up dropping out as the commute to secondary schools is not affordable and is too far, parents often can’t provide the funds for their kids to live away from home, and it is also dangerous for young girls. Your donations will offer the children a future full of possibilities and opportunities. They will greatly appreciate your help.
About my cycle
I will be cycling from Shingwa school to the source of the great Zambezi River.
The journey will be roughly 800-900km. My route goes through some of Zambia's most rural and beautiful areas. The route also consists of many very challenging sections, thick sand for kilometers, river crossings and days of isolated untouched bush. I am by no means a cyclist and I’m aiming for the cycle to take me +-2 weeks. I will be camping throughout.
I will have two seconders with me in a cruiser for safety reasons and to carry supplies, one of my seconders Myk will cycle with me through villages and any potentially dangerous areas.
