Pirate Queens, The True Story of Anne and Mary
"Pirate Queens" is a project that I have been working on for years. From writing the first, second, third and fourth draft of the script. Having readings in my apartment so I could hear it outloud. Hosting a seated reading at the Westmoreland Museum of American Art to get audience feedback. And now this, raising the funds so that the show can actually be performed on stage!
"Pirate Queens" is a play in three acts that tells the true story of Anne Bonny and Mary Read, two women who met aboard a pirate ship while both were masquerading as men. Their stories are tragic and epic, and everyone should know who they were. Remember their names.
My name is Rob MacIntyre and I have been involved in the arts for the better part of the past 20 years, and haved worked in the performing arts for 17 years. I have been a director, an actor, a teacher of acting classes, a fight choreographer, a dance choreographer, set designer and lighting designer. I have even had another play I wrote, "The Pirates of Treasure Island," produced by Greensburg Civic Theatre (click on the link to see the Facebook page dedicated to the show!). A show that was really a wonderful success!
To finally put up "Pirate Queens" will be the realization of 4 year project. And those who have already committed to work on it, and myself, can't do it alone!
All money raised will be used directly for the production. Most of the money will be used in space rental, because a stage doesn't come cheap. Other funding will go towards props, costumes, and set pieces.
Here is a break down of the funds to be raised*:
Stage Rental..................................................$3,000 est.
Playbill Printing........................................................$300
Preshow Meet & Greet/Cast Party................$300
Advertising.................................................................$200
Sound/Light Technician........................................$100
Props/Set.....................................................................$100
*: These are estimates and takes into account that I have numerous friends/associates/favors that I can call in from 20 years in theater
We are looking to put the show up in the summer, likely in July. We have started the fundraising this soon so that we can make sure we have plently of time to reach enough people to raise the money, and because we need time to book a stage.
We are more than willing to show our thanks to those who can help us put this performance on. See below and check out some of the great rewards we're willing to offer in exchange for your help!
Thank you for your help!
