Pitchfork Farm Flood Recovery Fund

You know them, you love them, you've eaten and purchased their produce at many Vermont restaurants and grocery stores, and as you know, their farm (and the entire Intervale) experienced devastating damage in the flood. On Tuesday, Pitchfork Farm suffered 100% crop loss when the Winooski River overflowed into the Intervale, completely flooding all of their fields and greenhouses. They're hoping they can keep planting this season after the water recedes, but in the meantime, Pitchfork Farm supports a staff of 12, the two owners, and has incurred a large debt that comes with the seasonality of farming (they don't see a profit until the fall). The impact of this flood has put all 14 of these farmers' livelihoods in jeopardy.

The owners, Eric Seitz and Rob Rock, are experiencing the second total loss of Pitchfork's crop in just over a decade and the flooding this time around exceeded the supposedly once-in-a-generation floods from Hurricane Irene. Two "once-in-a-lifetime" floods in twelve years is a huge burden for the business to bear.

The generosity of Vermonters is second to none. Mutual aid is an act of love. We love these guys and want to see them roar back to finish out this season and many seasons to come. Whatever support we can provide will contribute to keeping them on these fields growing our food.
