PITTS MARTIAL ARTS CONSTRUCTION NEW DOJO

Pitts Martial Arts Academy is one of the most well established Martial Arts schools in Oakland, and one of the few Black owned schools still operating in the area. With the rising costs in the Bay, it has been difficult for the school to maintain its day-to-day operations and building upkeep. Master Pitts volunteers much of his time to his students, and hasn't taken a personal salary in many years. Master Pitts works tirelessly helping his students build and achieve their confidence and spirit through the Martial Arts. His work with both at-risk youth and special needs youth is a testament to Master Pitts' dedication to the community. During Covid Master Pitts has to relocate his school to Berkeley and is in the process of building his own school in Berkeley. Let's help keep a school that brings the best out of its students in top working shape!

Master Pitts is very excited to announce the launch of a GoFundMe site for the construction of a new studio. This decision is driven by economics behind Covid-19, which makes it unfeasible to continue to pay substantial rent on the Santa Clara studio when it could not be utilized effectively.

The new studio will be located in Master Pitts back yard in Berkeley. To keep construction costs as low as possible the studio will be based on a prebuilt 20 ft x 20 ft Tuff Shed garage design similar to that shown below.

The total cost is estimated to be $80,000 which includes the building, a concrete foundation, electrical wiring, inside finishing and flooring. Of the many virtues of a prebuilt structure like the Tuff Shed is the speed with which it can be built: once the order has been placed construction will be completed in only 4 months.

However, it is exciting to know that once that does happen a new studio will be ready to welcome everyone back. Master Pitts welcomes any and all donations for the construction of the new studio – no donation is too small. We will be sending out periodic updates to donors and it is our intention to have safe-distanced celebration once the building has been completed.
