Pixel's Medical Emergency

Our beloved Purrzerker had a sudden medical emergency last night. I took him to the Veterinary Emergency Group in Lynnwood, and although the wonderful folks at the Center have hopefully addressed the problem, the treatment left a crater where our bank account used to be.

This is Pixel the Purrzerker - the sweetest and most loving cat you could ever hope to meet.

Yesterday, my wife Sandi and I noticed he was acting sluggish and trying to pee in places where he wouldn't even consider peeing. I brought him into the bathroom and stayed with him; when he tried three times to pee and could not, I called the Veterinary Center, let them know we were coming, bundled Pixel up, and took him in.

(Yes, he has one eye. We adopted Pixel from a shelter after he'd lost that eye as a kitten. That's one of the reasons I fear him getting sick: The poor guy had enough trauma for one lifetime before we'd even met him around two years ago. Despite his rough beginnings, he's amazingly chipper and lovable. Protecting him from further harm means everything to us.)

About 4:30 a.m., they catheterized Pixel and cleaned out his backed-up bladder. I brought him home around dawn. Hopefully, this fixes the problem. Apparently, Pixel is now prone to crystals in his urine, and so we're ordering special cat food for him and making sure he stays hydrated.

At the moment, Pixel seems to be back to his normal bouncy self. We're keeping an eye on him and hoping further treatment won't be necessary.

That said, this visit cost us around $2000, right after we'd paid rent and bills, so we're tapped financially for the next week or two. He might also need another visit and further treatment if his recovery doesn't go well, so we appreciate any help you could offer.
