My name is Jennifer Chaffin. I'm married to Stephen and we have a beautiful four year old daughter named Ariana. I went to the Doctor for elbow pain and decided to ask for a mammogram as I just turned 40 and knew that's when this type of procedure is recommended. We had no family history of Breast Cancer, so I thought it would be just a normal yearly thing I would start to do. Within a week and a half from that day 2/19 I was diagnosed with triple negative Breast Cancer. I had no symptoms. I've now incurred expenses for additional mammograms, ultrasound, needle biopsy, and two MRIs. I'm scheduled for bone and CT scans along with surgery to install a port for 6-7 months of chemotherapy prior to an additional surgery to remove the tumor or decide on a mastectomy depending on future tests and chemo. The tumor already measures 2 inches in just the last month. I had never felt this lump before, but I can now.
I am not one to ask for help however I know my medical finances are going to be hard to adjust to while I'm trying to work full time and keep my four year old in preschool. My husband is a Police Officer and we are dependent on a two person income as his salary is less than mine. I carry the health insurance for myself and my daughter but if I cannot work we still have to pay our share of the medical insurance premium. We do not qualify for FMLA as I work for a small business. Any significant amounts of time off would be unpaid. I also have no disability that I could use. I'm reaching out to you for help. I need to fight hard and this unforeseen circumstance has caused more stress of wondering how I'm going to fight and not worry about the roof over my head. I would never wish cancer on anyone and I'm glad it's me than my family, friends or a total stranger. I'm taking one for the team, but I need help from that team. God Bless you all for any help you may be able to give. I love you all to the Moon and back...muah
