2 Additional Porta Potty Rentals

FRIENDS OF GARRAPATA CROWDFUNDING:
"California’s venerable state parks — from sunny Los Angeles beaches to towering redwoods in the Santa Cruz Mountains — are under “serious stress” and suffering from declining budgets, shorter hours, higher fees, a $1.3 billion maintenance backlog and outdated technology," Paul Rogers, Bay Area News Group.
As far as FRIENDS OF GARRAPATA (FOG) knows, there are only 2 porta-potties at Garrapata State Park. There used to be 3, until state parks pulled 2, a few years ago because of budgetary concerns. That was before the Big Sur fires and the resulting 300 to 400% increase in hikers at Garrapata. In the past 6 months, state parks added another porta-potty, thanks to a great article by Chris Counts of the Carmel Pine Cone.
Below is an estimate for 2 additional porta-potties for 4 months. From Memorial Day thru to Labor Day.
WHAT VOLUNTEERS/FRIENDS ARE SAYING:
Dorothy D..."Well - thought we would be cleaning up the beach ......but.....we worked on the trails, and my, did we find garbage! After picking up so much "toilet paper" ( gross!!!!) there is a decided need for tourists stopping on Hwy. 1 to have a real "pit stop" PLEASE! Other issues apart from thrown beer cans etc. were the # of cigarette butts. Don't know the solution to that one?"
Elizabeth M... "so needed... one of my fav spots in Big Sur has tp all over it...carry out dog stuff... how about your own...?"
For 6 years, with NO OUTSIDE FUNDING, Friends of Garrapata (FOG) has tried to maintain a trash free/graffiti free environment throughout the park, with the help of over 2200 Facebook friends, despite a 300 to 400% increase in hikers. This approach has proved to be a huge success, far beyond our wildest dreams.
