Love for Tony
I’ve shared “Blind Tony” Horton’s music and story several times here. He’s a beloved fixture in downtown Edenton, sharing his talent, story, and faith with anyone who pauses to speak most every sunny day here in town. I’m a big fan.
2 weeks ago, Tony and his sister’s house caught fire. It started in the heat system, and luckily they were home. The house sustained a lot of damage, but they’re hard at work to get things back in order. The firefighters had to go through the floors- and the wiring, plumbing, and HVAC are being replaced.
My girls and I were shopping downtown today when Tony recounted the play by play of that terrifying day. When I was expressing gratefulness that it hadn’t been worse, I said “gosh, Tony, how scary…im going to bring you a little love gift next week.”
He didn’t miss a beat. “I received my love gift… I’m alive and here, and that’s the best love gift of all.”
Amen, right?
That said, I’m still going deliver a little gift- just a reminder to him of what a gift he is to this world. If you’d like to send a little love gift, I’ll deliver it with your love, too.
