Plainfield Police K9 Memorial
Donation protected
The Village of Plainfield has had a Police K9 unit since the late 1970's through today's date. In this time frame we have had seven total police service dogs (K9s Luger, TJ, Brutus, Blackie, Foster, and Aron) including our current K9 - K9 Kody who is 4 years old and has been patrolling the streets of Plainfield since 2013. Many of the Police Officers who were the K9 handlers are still alive, but all the police service dogs, with the exception of K9 Kody, have since passed. Three of the past service dogs, K9s Luger, Blackie, and TJ are currently buried under a large rock located on the property of the Plainfield Riverfront located at 24321 W. Lockport Street. At this very location use to stand a K9 agility field the police service dogs would utilize to train at. This field has since been removed, but the rock still remains. The Plainfield Police Department along with the Plainfield Riverfront Foundation have partnered together to honor the Plainfield K9 unit by building a K9 memorial at this location. The projected unveiling for the memorial is Fall of 2016. As the current K9 handler of K9 Kody, I, Officer Tracy Caliendo, am very thankful to all who help out with this cause. Honoring these police service dogs, we as handlers call our partners, means more than words can ever express.
