For those unaware, Sandra had a high fever on Thursday, November 16th. Assuming it was a flu she tried to sleep it off, but after 24 hours of no flu symptoms we thought something was up. She also noticed a red, puffy section of her left leg. We headed to the ER where the cause was thought to be cellulitis and she was admitted with ongoing rounds of four antibiotics. A few days later it was clear the infection wasn't responding to the antibiotics and was in fact traveling up her leg. The surgeon then determined she had necrotizing fasciitis, a deadly infection that has the potential for impact to muscles, ligaments, mobility, and more.
Sandra's had four surgeries to remove significant chunks of skin from her leg - the exposed tissue expanding from the top of the foot to the top of her thigh. She'll be in the hospital for several more weeks, and will have three to six months of recovery at home with intermittent doctor appointments.
Several folks have already generously given to help with meals and other logistics this last week - thanks! This request is to prepare for the upcoming medical bills and the logistics of doing life as a family with extra medical care needed.
We appreciate your partnership in life here and elsewhere.
