Plant a Tree in Memory of Jim Schwab

Donation protected
My dad, Jim Schwab, unexpectedly passed away this week just before his 72nd birthday. He was a lifelong Angeleno and avid hiker who knew the Santa Monica mountains like the back of his hand. I would like to memorialize him for his birthday in a way that he would have loved and plant a native tree amongst those mountains in his memory, which will eventually grow to become a part of the urban canopy of Los Angeles.

My family and I would be very grateful if folks could consider making a small donation towards this effort through TreePeople’s Cinader Grove tree planting campaign. Cinader Grove is a new acquisition of the TreePeople foundation that is adjacent to the Betty B. Dearing trail and Coldwater Canyon Park — two hiking areas off of Mulholland Dr. that my Dad and I frequented together since I was young, by mountain bike or by boot.

One tree dedication costs a total of $1,500 and consists of planting a native tree sapling and a small custom commemorative plaque that will be installed on the entrance signage at the new grove.

My dad was incredibly passionate about preserving the culture, history and native landscape of the greater Los Angeles area and especially the San Fernando Valley. Therefore, any additional donations beyond this goal will be donated directly to either the Friends of Griffith Park, the Friends of the Los Angeles River, and/or the Valley Relics Museum.

Thank you to everyone who is considering contributing to this fundraiser.
