The DARWIN200 team sails around the world on board the historic Dutch schooner ‘Oosterschelde’, following the route of Charles Darwin aboard HMS Beagle to (1) train two hundred of the world’s very best young conservationists from countries across the globe, (2) beam out the “world’s most exciting classroom” (every week, new experiments, activities, lectures, research projects and more to schools across the globe), and (3) undertake research projects, conservation efforts and community outreach in all ports we visit – see www.darwin200.com

Charles Darwin was left speechless by the biodiversity of Brazil's Atlantic Rainforests. But since his visit, over the last two centuries, most of the Atlantic rainforest has been cut down or degraded.

DARWIN200 and Shipping Company ‘Oosterschelde’ are working with the inspirational Association of the Golden Lion Tamarin - www.micoleao.org.br

For decades, the Association of the Golden Lion Tamarin has worked tirelessly to save the endangered golden lion tamarin from extinction, and to conserve its habitat, the Atlantic rainforest, which is home to countless other species, from armadillos to sloths.

This project is very simple.

We have already raised US$ 12,500 to plant thousands of trees in the Atlantic rainforest. We are planting these trees this week (November 7th to November 13th). Every single day, we will be uploading a short YouTube film about our progress! We have raised this money through the kind support of Carbon Capture Solutions Limited, Fourth Element and shipping company Oosterschelde.

We would really like to help the Association of the Golden Lion Tamarin with more funds to plant more trees.

100% of the money raised through this project is donated to the Association of the Golden Lion Tamarin (naturally, after Go Fund Me fees are paid, and the rewards are sent).

The tree planting team consists of the DARWIN200 crew and unpaid volunteers. No money from this campaign pays anyone.

The US$ 12,500 we have already got helps us plant a corridor between two pockets of Atlantic rainforest – this is VERY important to help populations of wildlife to be connected (as fragmentation of populations depletes genetic diversity and long-term population survivability).

We have a wonderful public, online event called “DARWIN DAY” on November 12th, where we are giving a detailed update of how this week’s planting has gone (we’ll fly a drone over the area we planted). You will receive a book: “A conservation history: the Atlantic Forest and the Golden Lion Tamarin”, by Cristina Serra and Haroldo Palo Jr.

£10,000 – all of the above plus the Association of the Golden Lion Tamarin team will name a real, live, wild golden lion tamarin in your honour (you choose the name for the individual tamarin). They will send you photos of it in the wild and (when possible) in the future.

£20,000 – all of the above plus all expenses paid (including economy flight from anywhere in the world) to Rio de Janeiro to visit the Association of the Golden Lion Tamarin for a personalised 1 day trip to see the amazing golden lion tamarins in the wild (note: you must have a yellow fever vaccination).
