Planting Seeds to Combat Human Trafficking- Nepal

Tax deductible

Join us as we partner with Anjali Tamang who is building a school in her village in Nepal to prevent trafficking, reduce child marriage, raise awareness and change the mindset of her people, and offer a bright future for the next generation. Join this fight for human rights and be an activist with your giving funds today. Every gift is wildly celebrated and will be stewarded with great care.

WHY THIS IS NEEDED: The mission is to stop the trafficking of girls, through education, by creating qualified and competitively educated students in a remote village in eastern Nepal. Currently, it is estimated that 75% of girls in this area of Nepal are trafficked or forced into child marriage. Anjali envisions that the youth in her village will be empowered to be professionals who are not only a source of hope, of poverty alleviation, and of decreasing dependence on earnings generated through sexual slavery, but ultimately are a part of the solution for ending human trafficking in this generation.

The name of the school is Hasta Memorial School. Hasta was the name of Anjali’s father. He worked hard to educate himself informally under candlelight and he always passionately wanted to educate others.

IN ANJALI’S WORDS:
"For the last 10 years, I have had a dream - to provide education and hope to children in my village in Nepal, so that they will not have to suffer the trauma of human trafficking, as I did.  When I was eleven years old, I was trafficked to India, where I endured several years  in a brothel in Kolkata.

Thankfully, I was rescued and given the help and support I needed to heal and rebuild my life. The love of God, and the love and hard work of many people have gotten me to the point where I am ready to bring my dream to reality,  I plan to offer a different life to children in my community, through the light of education.

I believe in the saying of Nelson Mandela, ‘Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world' and in the words of Victor Hugo, ‘He who opens a school door, closes a prison.’

Our village in the Eastern mountain region of Nepal has a huge problem with trafficking.  A high percentage of the girls who grow up here are either trafficked or forced into child marriage.

I'm raising money to build a school in my village, to prevent more girls from being trafficked, to give them a bright future, to raise awareness and change the mindset of my people. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me." -Anjali Tamang

WHY this matters to me:
I love, trust, and greatly respect Sarah Symons, founder of Her Future Coalition . When I read the book she wrote with Anjali about Anjali’s story--called Standing in the Way--I was deeply inspired by and in awe at Anjali’s courage and hope, and knew that I wanted to share her story with our ever-generous and changemaking community of Seeds.
