Playbox01

Playbox is a mini venue in a shipping container creating play (for all ages) in an area where there was very little. 

We've  already come a long way with our Playbox this last 18 months, we've spent time in Armley, Seacroft, Moortown, Kirkstall and Leeds City Centre. We've met hundreds of people, and been ever inspired by the inventiveness of the people we meet. 

With the support we have received so far we have put in pegboard and versatile shelving meaning it's easy for people to get on with the serious business of play, rather than encountering and tidying up the chaos everytime the doors are opened. With help we've also got lovely signage, although our useful noticeboard came a cropper in one park when the bored teens decided to test it's flamability.

So what's next?
We know this prototype Playbox makes a difference to people and communities, it brings people together, helps people to make new friends, come up with ideas and want to make the most of where they live, together. 

We seek funds to help with solar power to develop more WIFI and connectivity in the parks, and to help us run a pilot project called Pi in the Park, where we work with the community on fun tech projects, and the box can tells a digital story of where it's at. It means the community can run mini cinema, minecraft mapping events and social media cafes linking to older people and walkers in the park. And that's just for starters...

We've identified that to make Playbox viable longer term it could create income through a small remodelling to create a kiosk offering refreshments, kits and relevent retail offer to the people in the park or plaza.

To top it off our dream would be to get an extendable canopy to create more cover in the wet! 

All funds will go directly to improving the experience of play and creativity for the generations of people who want to play and create, and enable more residents, schools and community groups to share opening the playbox to the community on a more frequent basis.

Your support will also help us to prototype Playbox with power, with a pilot technology project with a local school  and older people's care home in early Spring.
